A Trinamool Congress youth leader is facing allegations of harassing a Block Development Officer (BDO) in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district. The incident unfolded during a meeting in the Domkal block, where disagreements arose over government tenders and fund allocations for housing schemes. A video of the incident has circulated widely on social media.
The confrontation escalated to the point where the police had to intervene after being called to the scene. Sources report that the incident took place during a meeting of the Panchayat Samiti’s Standing Committee (Public Works) at the Domkal BDO office. Discussions were centered on expediting the implementation of government projects.
During the meeting, tensions rose when the Panchayat Samiti president and the chairman of the Public Works committee requested information from the BDO regarding road tenders, housing scheme funds, and approved funds. The situation turned volatile when one of the committee members allegedly attempted to physically assault the BDO. A video capturing the tense exchange has since gone viral.
Following the altercation, Trinamool Congress workers purportedly surrounded the BDO’s chamber and subjected him to verbal abuse. Even with the arrival of police officers, the situation remained tense, with the Trinamool leader displaying aggressive behavior towards the police. Eventually, law enforcement managed to restore order at the scene.
In response to the incident, the BDO emphasized the administrative nature of the matter and stated that appropriate actions would be taken following instructions from higher officials. Meanwhile, the committee member involved in the altercation defended their actions, citing the need for prompt action on various projects.
