A Trinamool councillor in West Bengal was arrested for allegedly punching and breaking a police officer’s nose. Along with two others, the councillor was taken into custody and presented in court. The injured police officer is currently receiving medical treatment.
The incident occurred in the Tin Bazar area of Serampore Municipality, leading to unrest due to a commotion at an Anganwadi center. The councillor, Rajesh Shah, intervened when police attempted to open a locked Anganwadi center, resulting in a confrontation and the alleged assault on the police officer. Despite the accusations, the councillor claimed innocence and cited political motives behind the arrest.
Rajesh Shah denied the allegations, stating that the altercation stemmed from a dispute over an Anganwadi center established under the ‘Paray Samadhan’ scheme. He emphasized that the incident was a result of political rivalry following the recent state elections. Post-poll violence has been reported across West Bengal, with incidents of attacks on party workers and vandalism.
