Officials from Tripura and Mizoram are set to convene in Agartala to address the ongoing border disagreement spanning 109 kilometers between the two Northeastern states. The meeting, scheduled for next week, aims to pave the way for discussions between the Chief Ministers of the respective states to seek a resolution.
Tripura’s Chief Minister initiated the dialogue with Mizoram to tackle the longstanding border issue through mutual talks. During the North Eastern Council’s 73rd plenary session in Shillong, the two Chief Ministers agreed to engage in discussions to resolve the inter-state boundary dispute.
The border conflict, existing for years, triggers tensions whenever development activities occur in disputed areas. Recent incidents, like an attack on a tourism building along the border, have highlighted the need for dialogue and cooperation between Tripura and Mizoram to maintain peace and address territorial claims.
The dispute, involving areas like Phuldungsei village, has prompted joint efforts from both states to assess the situation, enhance security measures, and engage in discussions to find a lasting solution. The involvement of various stakeholders and officials reflects the commitment to resolving the border issue through peaceful means.
