The BJP government in Tripura has followed Assam and Arunachal Pradesh by appointing ‘Guardian Ministers’ for each of the state’s eight districts. These ministers will supervise and review the progress of various developmental works, welfare schemes, and infrastructure projects. The aim is to ensure better coordination and effective implementation of government programs.
These Guardian Ministers will work closely with district administrations, elected representatives, and officials from different departments. They will monitor development projects, oversee flagship government schemes, address public grievances, and ensure the timely execution of government initiatives. The initiative is designed to enhance monitoring, improve coordination among departments, and promote balanced and transparent development across all districts.
The notification specifies the assignment of ministers to different districts. For instance, Power and Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath will oversee the tribal-dominated Dhalai district, while Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy has been assigned to West Tripura district. This move is part of a broader strategy to strengthen grassroots governance, identify gaps in scheme implementation, and expedite development projects through enhanced ministerial supervision.
Political analysts view this move as a step towards bolstering administrative oversight and improving the delivery of government programs ahead of the 2028 Tripura Assembly elections. The BJP government aims to bring governance closer to the people, identify implementation deficiencies, and accelerate project execution through increased ministerial involvement.
