Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha pledged a fair investigation by the police into the death of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) leader Rahul Kishore Roy, found deceased in his North Tripura residence. Saha, also overseeing the Home Department, promised a thorough inquiry into the allegations made by Roy’s wife, ensuring legal action as per the law.

Roy, a 38-year-old BJYM Mandal President and Dharmanagar Municipal Council councillor, was discovered dead under suspicious circumstances at his home, a day after a BJP candidate’s victory in a by-election. The incident led to unrest in Dharmanagar, the town’s commercial center after Agartala, with demands for arrests and strict penalties for the perpetrators.

The situation escalated as party members, supporters, and locals protested, blocking roads and causing traffic disruptions. Roy’s wife accused a group linked to the BJP, including the newly elected MLA Jahar Chakraborti, of involvement in the incident, alleging assault on her family. The family suspects political motives behind the tragedy.

Authorities are investigating the matter, although the exact cause of Roy’s death remains uncertain. While the victim’s wife claims he took his life due to humiliation, using a BJP flag, protesters demand swift action and warn of escalating agitation if the culprits are not promptly apprehended. The tense atmosphere in Dharmanagar persists as residents await updates on the case.
