Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha criticized opposition parties for their stance against the Women’s Reservation Bill, stating it as unjust to women. He expressed confidence that women nationwide would respond to the opposition in the future. Saha made these remarks during the ‘Janakrosh Mahila Padyatra’ organized by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in Agartala to protest the non-passage of amendments related to the Bill on April 17.
Saha strongly condemned the opposition’s actions and urged everyone to support the motion they plan to introduce in the state Assembly on April 30. He emphasized the importance of amendments to the Nari Shakti Bandhan Adhiniyam, 2023, which has already become law. The Chief Minister highlighted the necessity for amendments post-enactment to enhance women’s empowerment, leading to the reintroduction of the Bill before Parliament.
In April 2026, the Bill was once again presented in Parliament for amendment, with a focus on addressing delays in its implementation. Saha pointed out that the opposition’s resistance, including from Congress, Trinamool Congress, and Communist Party of India (Marxist), has hindered the progress of the Bill. He mentioned that despite proposed changes based on the 2011 Census data, the opposition continues to oppose the move, leading to protests and marches by women demanding the Bill’s advancement.
