Tripura Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath highlighted that the Tripura Global Pineapple Festival 2026, held in New Delhi, aims to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Vocal for Local’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ vision. The festival serves as a platform to exhibit Tripura’s agricultural prowess and rich cultural heritage on a global scale.
Nath emphasized that the festival’s core objective is not only to promote Tripura’s renowned pineapple in national and international markets but also to spotlight the state’s tourism potential, cultural legacy, bamboo industry, and other emerging sectors to delegates from India and abroad. He underlined the significant progress in the agriculture sector, attributing it to the Act East Policy under PM Modi’s leadership.
The Minister praised Tripura’s conducive climate for pineapple cultivation, resulting in high-quality produce that is well-recognized in India. He mentioned that tribal farmers cultivate the Queen and Kew pineapple varieties, with the Queen variety obtaining the Geographical Indication (GI) tag in 2014 and being declared the official state fruit in 2018. Known for its exceptional sweetness, rich aroma, superior taste, and extended shelf life, the Queen pineapple is ideal for international exports.
Highlighting the success of exporting Queen and Kew pineapple varieties, Nath stated that Tripura has strengthened its position in the horticulture sector and created new export avenues. The state has exported substantial quantities of pineapple to various countries and Indian states, with plans to enhance marketing, processing, and value addition of the GI-tagged Queen pineapple through a significant project supported by the Central Government and the Ministry of DoNER.
The three-day festival will feature cultural programs showcasing Tripura’s traditions, heritage, and diverse cultural identity, offering visitors a glimpse into the state’s unique cultural tapestry alongside its agricultural achievements. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha and Union Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Sukanta Majumdar graced the inaugural function.
