Tripura Police have apprehended eight Bangladeshi nationals in separate operations at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport in Agartala. The arrests were made following specific intelligence inputs received by the Airport Police. Acting on the information, police successfully prevented the individuals from boarding flights to other states.
The first operation on June 26 led to the arrest of four Bangladeshi nationals who were planning to travel to another state. Subsequently, four more individuals were apprehended on June 27 at the airport. The total number of arrests in the two-day crackdown now stands at eight, with investigations ongoing to uncover a potential cross-border infiltration network.
Four of the detained individuals have been presented before a local court, while the remaining four are in police custody awaiting further interrogation. Authorities are seeking a five-day remand for the latter group to delve deeper into the suspected network facilitating their illegal entry and movement.
Initial findings suggest that the arrested individuals intended to travel to Guwahati. Police are examining their travel itinerary, entry route into India, and possible assistance from an organized cross-border network. Efforts are underway to verify the entry route and identify accomplices linked to the alleged infiltration network.
Personal belongings of the accused, including mobile phones, are being scrutinized for digital and forensic evidence. The investigation, which involves all male detainees, aims to identify additional individuals involved in aiding cross-border infiltration and coordinating movements within India.
Tripura, sharing an 856-km border with Bangladesh, faces significant challenges due to its proximity to the neighboring country. Most border areas are fenced to deter illegal activities, with heightened vigilance by security forces along the International Border. Recent initiatives for Smart Border Management aim to enhance surveillance and border security using advanced technologies.
