Tripura’s organic agricultural products, notably the Queen pineapples, have garnered a positive response from consumers in Dubai. This success signifies a significant advancement for the state’s endeavors to broaden its presence in global markets. Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath commended the efforts of Tripura’s farmers, the Agriculture Department, and the state government in promoting organic farming and linking premium agricultural produce with international markets.
Expressing contentment with the achievement, Nath emphasized that this milestone will create new export prospects, boost farmers’ incomes, and reinforce Tripura’s reputation as a producer of top-notch organic horticultural products. He highlighted the ongoing commitment to extending Tripura’s organic excellence to markets worldwide. Recently, Nath, who also oversees the Power portfolio, initiated the export of organic agricultural products to Gulf countries through a Dubai-based organization on July 10.
The export consignment included over 1,300 organic scented lemons, 182 kg of indigenous organic aromatic ‘Kalikhasa’ rice, and 350 organically grown Queen pineapples sourced from various Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) in Tripura. This successful export venture and the favorable response from consumers in the UAE are anticipated to motivate more farmers to embrace organic cultivation. It also opens up new avenues for the state’s premium horticultural and agricultural products in international markets.
Nath highlighted that the Dubai-based organization is a prominent retail marketing entity in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, operating across six GCC countries with procurement networks spanning over 85 countries. The integration of Tripura’s organic produce into the marketing network of such a globally recognized retail chain is a source of pride for the state and is expected to create fresh opportunities for farmers, thereby enhancing their earnings. The minister emphasized that the successful export underscores the dedication and hard work of Tripura’s farmers and FPCs in producing high-quality organic agricultural products.
