Tripura’s tea industry is on the brink of significant growth as Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) totaling Rs 726 crore are set to be signed during the Destination Tripura Business Conclave-2026 on July 9 and 10. The Tripura Tea Development Corporation (TTDC) plans to partner with four investors to enhance and modernize the state’s tea sector. These investments aim to introduce tea blending units, promote organic tea cultivation, develop eco-tourism projects, and establish a tea museum, among other initiatives.
The proposed projects are expected to revitalize Tripura’s tea industry by fostering private-sector involvement, increasing value addition, and expanding the state’s presence in tea markets both locally and internationally. The Chairman of TTDC, Samir Ranjan Ghosh, expressed confidence that these endeavors would create job opportunities, boost tourism, bolster the rural economy, and significantly contribute to the state’s economic progress. Currently, Tripura boasts 54 tea gardens, including those managed by TTDC and privately owned estates, with small tea growers accounting for about 30% of the state’s annual tea production.
Tripura is also gearing up to establish its own tea auction center next year, a move that is anticipated to propel the state’s beverages industry forward. Chief Minister Manik Saha aims to attract investments worth nearly Rs 1 lakh crore across various sectors during the upcoming Destination Tripura Business Conclave-2026. Emphasizing the importance of domestic and foreign investments in driving employment and economic growth, the chief minister highlighted the role of such business summits in reshaping Tripura’s investment landscape. Last year’s conclave saw MoUs worth around Rs 30,000 crore, with projects worth approximately Rs 8,000 crore already in progress.
