The Trump administration is set to revolutionize US visa processing and immigration services using artificial intelligence technology. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin informed lawmakers about the plan during a hearing. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) aims to enhance the efficiency of legal migration through automation while ensuring stringent security checks.
Mullin revealed that the DHS is currently implementing AI systems to streamline the immigration process. The first AI-powered platform is expected to be operational within 30 days. The initial focus will be on reducing the backlog in processing applications under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
Efforts are underway to redesign the application process to prevent errors that often cause delays in visa approvals. Mullin emphasized the need for a system that validates paperwork accuracy before submission. Additionally, the DHS is collaborating with the Department of Commerce to develop a mobile application for simplifying immigration services for applicants.
The digital transformation is aimed at benefiting both applicants and employers by enhancing efficiency. Mullin highlighted the economic impact of delays in the immigration process, emphasizing the need for timely approvals. The DHS has made significant improvements in processing times for H-2A agricultural visas, with a turnaround time of 15 days.
