US President Donald Trump visited the GM Milford Proving Ground in Michigan and praised his tariff policies for revitalizing General Motors and boosting US automobile production. Trump, alongside GM CEO Mary Barra and President Mark Reuss, highlighted the company’s strong performance, attributing it to tariffs and the recent election. He emphasized the significance of producing vehicles domestically and imposing tariffs on foreign automobiles to support American manufacturing.

During his visit, Trump commended GM’s growth at Factory Zero in Detroit, where they manufacture various vehicles, including the Chevrolet Silverado and Cadillac Escalade. He noted a 20% increase in truck and SUV production in 2026 and highlighted GM’s $9 billion investment in US factories over the past two years. Trump also mentioned other automakers like Ford, Toyota, and Hyundai investing in US production facilities.

GM’s Milford Proving Ground, a renowned testing facility in the American auto industry, hosted Trump’s visit. He underscored the historical significance of the facility and its role in vehicle development and safety testing. Michigan’s automotive industry, centered in Detroit with major players like GM, Ford, and Stellantis, remains crucial for the state’s economy and job market.
