US President Donald Trump mentioned that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed dissatisfaction with him due to tariffs and requested early delivery of American Apache helicopters. Trump revealed this during a speech at the House GOP Member Retreat, where he discussed India’s desire for quicker military hardware delivery, specifically the Apache helicopters ordered years ago. Trump highlighted India’s order of 68 Apaches and how Prime Minister Modi personally raised the issue with him, emphasizing their strong relationship despite trade tensions.

Trump defended his tariff policies, citing their effectiveness in generating revenue for the US and pushing trading partners to negotiate. He connected India’s Apache helicopter order to broader concerns about delays in US defence production, emphasizing the need for faster delivery of military equipment to both domestic and international customers. The President also mentioned efforts to prompt US defence companies to expedite equipment delivery to allies and partners, underscoring the importance of efficient defence manufacturing processes.

Trump’s remarks about Modi and India were part of a comprehensive speech covering various topics such as domestic politics, trade, tariffs, and national security. Despite the trade-related strains, Trump’s comments highlighted the significant defence ties between the US and India, showcasing India’s role as a major purchaser of American defence equipment. The Apache attack helicopters, in particular, play a crucial role in India’s military modernization plans, reflecting the deepening strategic partnership between the two countries.
