US President Donald Trump presented the US Air Force’s new VC-25B Bridge aircraft, hailing it as a symbol of American strength and a necessary upgrade for the aging presidential fleet. The modified Boeing 747, named VC-25B Bridge, will serve temporarily as the presidential aircraft until the new Air Force One program is finished. Trump emphasized the importance of the new aircraft, stating that it is almost double the size of its predecessor and reflects the prestige of the United States on the global stage.
The VC-25B Bridge aircraft has arrived at the Presidential Airlift Group and has commenced a series of commissioning flights to confirm its mission capabilities before joining the presidential airlift fleet officially. Air Force Secretary Troy Meink stressed that ensuring the safety and security of the commander in chief is their top priority. General Ken Wilsbach, Air Force Chief of Staff, praised the program’s ability to deliver a secure and reliable airborne command post in a shortened timeframe.
Trump expressed gratitude towards the military personnel and contractors who completed the aircraft’s transformation within approximately 10 months. He acknowledged the Emir of Qatar for providing the aircraft as a temporary solution while awaiting the delayed Boeing VC-25B program. The Bridge aircraft underwent significant modifications focusing on security, safety, and mission communications, including advanced secure communication systems and enhancements tailored for presidential travel requirements.
Pool reporters who were given a brief tour of the aircraft described its spacious interior with tan leather seating, conference facilities, wood paneling, and advanced communication systems. The aircraft also features lay-flat seating and upgraded operational capabilities. Trump highlighted the aircraft’s extensive range and cutting-edge communication equipment, emphasizing its advanced technology and multiple communication systems. He announced plans for the aircraft to lead a military flyover during America’s 250th anniversary celebrations and the July 4 commemorations next year.
Trump mentioned that his last planned trip aboard the current presidential aircraft, VC-25A, was his return from the G7 Summit. He suggested that the older aircraft might eventually be preserved in museums due to their historical significance. The VC-25A aircraft, which have been in service since President George H.W. Bush’s administration, have transported every US president since then and are iconic symbols of the American presidency, serving as airborne command centers during national emergencies.
