US President Donald Trump issued a warning to adversaries following the arrest of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro. Trump emphasized that the United States would not tolerate any threats to its security or sovereignty. He highlighted the success of the operation as a deterrent to those endangering American lives.
Trump reiterated that the US embargo on Venezuelan oil remained in place and that American forces were ready to take action if needed. Accusing Maduro of involvement in drug trafficking and sending violent gangs to the US, Trump condemned the actions of the Venezuelan leadership. He specifically mentioned the Tren de Aragua prison gang as a tool of terror directed by Maduro.
Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth praised the operation, underscoring American resolve and the readiness to defend against adversaries. Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that Maduro, indicted in 2020, was not recognized as Venezuela’s legitimate president by the US, the EU, or several other governments globally. Rubio labeled Maduro a fugitive of American justice.
Trump also addressed regional concerns, criticizing Colombian President Gustavo Petro for alleged involvement in drug activities. He expressed disapproval of Cuba’s situation, calling it a “failing nation.” Additionally, Trump’s comments on Russian President Vladimir Putin highlighted concerns over the conflict in Ukraine.
The US President stressed the importance of supporting NATO and ending conflicts while sending a clear message to adversaries. The operation in Venezuela reflects the heightened US focus on the Western Hemisphere, where security, energy, and migration are key strategic priorities.
