AMMK General Secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran expressed disapproval towards the Tamil Nadu government for its handling of women and children’s safety, particularly in light of the reported sexual assault of an 11-year-old girl in Villupuram district. Dhinakaran called upon Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to prioritize public safety and implement stronger measures to prevent crimes against women and minors. The incident, as reported by the media, involved the arrest of a suspect linked to the alleged assault in Vandipalayam near Marakkanam, sparking concerns among local residents about child safety in the region.
The AMMK leader highlighted the timing of the incident, occurring amidst existing apprehensions and public outcry in Tamil Nadu regarding crimes against women and children. Pointing to a recent case in Coimbatore where a 10-year-old girl was abducted, sexually assaulted, and murdered, Dhinakaran emphasized the need for more effective protective measures for vulnerable groups. He questioned the government’s responsiveness, citing Chief Minister Vijay’s previous commitments to women’s safety and protection.
Dhinakaran underscored the need for concrete actions beyond mere condolences, urging the government to establish robust preventive mechanisms to address such incidents. He specifically called for stringent legal action against the accused in the Villupuram case and emphasized the critical importance of prioritizing the safety of women and children in the state.
