Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) MLA M.V. Karuppiah, who recently joined Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s party, has been named the Pro-tem Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Assembly. This appointment precedes the first session of the newly elected House set to convene on Monday.
Following TVK President Vijay’s assumption of office as Chief Minister after the party’s electoral success, Karuppiah, representing the Cholavandan constituency, will oversee the initial proceedings and administer oaths to newly elected MLAs. Karuppiah, a seasoned politician, transitioned to TVK earlier this year after being sidelined in the AIADMK.
Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered the oath of office to Vijay and nine Ministers at a ceremony in Chennai. The TVK emerged as the largest party in the recent elections and formed the government with the support of other parties, marking a shift in the state’s political landscape.
