Gwalior, Aug 8 (IANS) In a show of courage and presence of mind, 24-year-old twin sisters in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior on Saturday overpowered and apprehended a youth who was attempting to flee after snatching the mobile phone of one of them.

The sisters, who are law students, retrieved the device from the accused and subsequently handed him over to the police. The Gwalior Police have honoured both of them for this act of bravery.

Speaking to IANS, the sisters described the sequence of events.

“This morning, while we were on our way to college, a man riding a motorcycle came from behind and snatched the phone from my hand as soon as we reached the new Parav Bridge. My sister was driving the vehicle. We then followed him for some distance and also asked people nearby to help us and catch him, but no one responded. After that, we increased the vehicle’s speed and continued following him towards Phool Bagh Chowk,” one of the twins said.

She added: “There, a tempo was approaching from the opposite direction, due to which the speed of both his motorcycle and our vehicle decreased. As a result, the two vehicles collided, and both we and the motorcycle rider fell down. We sustained injuries in the accident. After that, the motorcycle rider tried to run away, but we managed to catch him. We immediately called the PCR; the police arrived at the spot shortly afterwards and took him with them.”

Upon receiving information about the incident, the police took the accused into custody and initiated interrogation. Police have identified the accused as Manpreet, a native of Punjab who had come to Gwalior for work.

Impressed by the sisters’ bravery, Gwalior SSP Dharmveer Singh Yadav invited the sisters to his office, honoured them, and commended their courage. The SSP remarked that vigilant and courageous citizens play a vital role in the safety of society and that such individuals should be encouraged.

Currently, the accused is being interrogated at Padav Police Station. An investigation is also underway to determine whether he has been involved in other cases of mobile snatching or any other criminal activities in the past.

Meanwhile, a video portraying the twin sisters’ bravery while apprehending the accused has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread appreciation from the public.
