Two suspected drug peddlers were apprehended by a joint team of Assam Rifles and Assam Police in an anti-drug operation along the Assam-Mizoram border in Cachar district. The operation, based on specific intelligence, led to the seizure of narcotics valued at around Rs 5 crore. The suspects tried to escape but were captured after a brief chase.
Security forces discovered 42 soap cases containing suspected heroin, estimated at Rs 2 crore, and 10,000 Yaba tablets worth nearly Rs 3 crore during the search operation. Additionally, two mobile phones allegedly used by the accused were also recovered. The seized narcotics, along with the arrested individuals and mobile phones, were handed over to Cachar Police for further legal action.
The authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the origin of the contraband, its intended destination, and any potential connections of the accused to larger drug trafficking networks. This successful joint operation showcased the effective coordination between Assam Rifles and Cachar Police in combating narcotics trafficking in the region.
The Assam-Mizoram border has been closely monitored by security agencies due to continuous attempts by drug syndicates to smuggle illegal substances. This recent seizure marks a significant achievement in the fight against drug trafficking in Northeast India. Officials emphasized the importance of sustained intelligence-driven operations to disrupt organized smuggling networks in the area.
