The police in Santipur, Nadia district, arrested two individuals for sexually assaulting a divorced woman under the guise of employment. The accused not only raped her but also threatened to expose intimate photos and videos, even resorting to death threats if she spoke out. Within 12 hours of the victim’s report, the police apprehended the perpetrators.
The victim, a resident of Shantipur, sought work through Shekhar Biswas, who introduced her to Manik Debnath, the owner of a local wardrobe factory. Shekhar lured her to various locations on the pretext of job offers, eventually subjecting her to multiple rapes in a hotel. He then blackmailed her with incriminating material.
Both Shekhar and Manik allegedly assaulted the woman in a similar manner, recording videos and taking photos to silence her. Overcome with fear, the victim remained silent until she finally mustered the courage to report the crimes to the Santipur police. Following her complaint, the authorities swiftly acted, arresting the two suspects within half a day.
The arrested individuals will appear in court on Wednesday, facing charges based on the victim’s statement. The woman, seeking justice, has demanded severe punishment for the perpetrators. A senior officer from the Nadia district police confirmed the arrests, stating that the investigation is ongoing and that further interrogation will be pursued.
