Two young cousins tragically lost their lives in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, after being electrocuted by a live wire that had fallen onto the road during heavy rainfall and strong winds. The incident occurred in the Sagar police station area of the district when Vikram Singh (25) and Raju Singh (20) unknowingly came into contact with the live wire while riding a motorcycle in poor visibility at around 9 p.m. Both individuals died instantly as a result of the electrocution.
The bodies of the cousins were discovered by passersby on Thursday, prompting authorities to intervene and retrieve the bodies. Concerns have been raised by locals regarding the alleged negligence of the Electricity Department, citing previous complaints about the same power line that were reportedly ignored.
The sudden change in weather in Rajasthan, influenced by a Western Disturbance, has brought relief from high temperatures but has also led to perilous situations in various districts, including Jaisalmer. The adverse weather conditions have adversely affected agriculture in Jaisalmer and Barmer, causing significant damage to crops such as cumin and isabgol. The Agriculture Department has initiated evaluations to assess the extent of the losses incurred by farmers.
A notable decrease of approximately 9 degrees Celsius in daytime temperatures has been observed across Rajasthan due to the unseasonal rains. While this change offers temporary respite from the heat, it has raised concerns among farmers and residents alike about the dual impact of the unexpected weather conditions.
