Additionally, a man in his 60s passed away after falling and losing consciousness in Benito Juarez municipality, Mexico City, amidst the earthquake-triggered evacuation, according to an official statement from the municipality.
Clara Brugada, the Mexico City government leader, reported that following the activation of the earthquake response protocol, 12 individuals were injured, with 18 complaints registered due to power outages in various neighborhoods. She further mentioned ongoing evaluations of two structures for collapse risks and inspections of 34 buildings and five residences as a precautionary measure.
During her routine morning press briefing, President Claudia Sheinbaum was compelled to evacuate the presidential palace due to the seismic activity. The earthquake, which struck at 7:58 a.m. local time (1358 GMT), originated approximately 4 km southwest of San Marcos in Guerrero, at a depth of around 5 km, as per Mexico’s National Seismological Service. In Mexico City, warning sirens sounded moments before the tremors were felt on the streets.
