Two journalists from a prominent national TV channel were arrested in Kochi for trying to film an Iranian warship near the Mattancherry Wharf. The police emphasized strict legal consequences for capturing images or videos of vessels along the Kerala coast due to national security concerns.
The journalists, along with the boat driver they hired to approach the warship, were taken into custody. They were attempting to record visuals of the Iranian warship IRIS Lavan, currently docked off the Kochi coast.
Despite their initial request being denied by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) due to security reasons, the journalists hired a boat from Marine Drive to get closer to the warship for filming. However, their presence in the restricted zone was noticed by CISF personnel, leading to their detention and handover to the Kochi Police.
The arrested individuals, accused of entering a prohibited area, are set to appear before a court as part of the legal process. Kochi Police issued a public advisory highlighting strict restrictions on photographing, filming, or sharing visuals of ships anchored off the Kerala coast, citing national security considerations.
