Two individuals tragically lost their lives in a devastating road accident in Giridih, Jharkhand, when three trucks collided and caught fire near a toll plaza. The incident occurred as a speeding truck from the Bagodar side collided with two parked trucks near the Kulgo toll plaza under the Dumri police station limits. The impact was so intense that the speeding truck hit a stationary vehicle before crashing into another coal-laden truck.
Following the collision, a fierce fire erupted in the truck cabins, rapidly engulfing the vehicles and making it difficult for anyone to escape. Eyewitnesses mentioned that the blaze was so severe that locals could not approach the vehicles despite their efforts to extinguish the flames and rescue those trapped. Two of the trucks were completely destroyed by the fire, while the third suffered partial damage.
Authorities from the Dumri police station and the fire brigade promptly responded to the scene upon notification. Firefighters worked tirelessly to control the blaze, eventually managing to do so after significant effort. Tragically, the charred bodies of the driver and cleaner trapped in one of the trucks were recovered from the wreckage.
In the aftermath, it was discovered that the driver of another truck sustained severe injuries and was urgently taken to Dumri Referral Hospital with the assistance of local residents. His condition is currently critical. Dumri SDPO Sumit Prasad indicated that investigations are ongoing to confirm the identities of the deceased.
Preliminary assessments suggest that the accident resulted from overspeeding and negligence, according to SDPO Sumit Prasad. The damaged vehicles were subsequently removed from the road by the police, allowing traffic to resume in the area. A thorough investigation has been launched to determine the precise chain of events and assign accountability.
