In a tragic incident in Hamirpur, Uttar Pradesh, a boat carrying nine passengers sank in the Yamuna River, resulting in two deaths and six individuals missing. The body of a woman named Brajrani and a 14-year-old girl named Archana have been recovered, while search operations are ongoing for the missing persons. Rescue efforts by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been hindered by heavy rainfall in the area.
The incident occurred at Kutupur Patia under the Kurara police station’s jurisdiction, where the boat submerged while crossing the river. Divers from SDRF, NDRF, and Flood PAC are intensively searching for four missing children, aged between 5 and 15 years. The District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police are overseeing the rescue operations.
District Magistrate Abhishek Goyal stated that the passengers were returning from a delayed routine trip when the boat submerged. While three people were rescued immediately, six individuals, including five children and one woman, are still missing. BJP MLA Manoj Prajapati assured that the administration is actively involved in the rescue operation, with multiple SDRF teams deployed for assistance.
DIG Banda Division Rajesh Yash reported that out of the nine people on board the boat, three were able to swim to safety, while the search continues for the missing individuals. Similar incidents have occurred recently in other regions, such as a boat capsizing in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur district and a fatal accident in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, claiming several lives.
