The main suspects in the murder of a promoter in West Bengal’s Howrah district have been apprehended in Delhi by a state police team. Harun Khan and Rohit Hossain were captured in Delhi’s Jama Masjid area and are being transported back to Kolkata on transit remand, as confirmed by Howrah city police’s ACP, North-I Division, Shaik Habeebulla. The arrested individuals will be handed over to the West Bengal CID, which is overseeing the investigation.
Following the murder of promoter Shafiq Khan in Peelkhana under Golabari police station area in Howrah on February 25, the two accused had absconded from Kolkata to Bihar and eventually to Delhi. The Howrah city police had been on a lookout for them, utilizing advanced technology and information from various sources. The breakthrough came when the suspects were identified in Delhi through CCTV footage and intelligence sources.
On February 28, the police recovered the firearms used in the killing from the house of arrested Mohammad Wakil alias Munna in Boubazar, central Kolkata. Golabari police station officers found two firearms and two rounds of bullets concealed in the water tank of the house. It was revealed that after the crime, the accused sought refuge at Wakil’s residence, where the weapon was stashed.
Collaborative efforts between Howrah City Police and Golabari police station led to the arrests of Wakil, Mohammad Bilal, and Dildar Hossain for their indirect involvement in the murder case. Despite this progress, the primary suspects had remained at large, prompting the state government to order a CID inquiry into the incident.
