A tragic incident occurred in Kota district when two railway engineers lost their lives in a sudden mudslide while working on a railway underpass in the Dara Valley area on the Kota–Jhalawar Highway. The accident took place around 8 p.m. during block-pushing work on the down line of the Delhi–Mumbai railway route.

The engineers, Section Engineer (CWI) Sanjay Kumar Jha and Junior Engineer Prabhat Singh, were trapped under mud as the soil beneath the track collapsed unexpectedly, causing panic at the site. Despite immediate rescue efforts, Sanjay Kumar Jha was declared dead upon arrival at a private hospital in Kota, while Junior Engineer Prabhat Singh succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Following the tragic incident, construction work was halted temporarily, and the bodies of the engineers were shifted to the MBS Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination. Senior railway, police, and administrative officials rushed to the site to assess the situation and ensure relief and security measures were in place.

As a precautionary step, the underpass has been closed from both ends while authorities investigate the cause of the accident. Railway traffic on the Delhi–Mumbai route is now operating at restricted speeds below 30 km per hour on both the up and down lines due to the incident.
