Two soldiers lost their lives in an accidental explosion near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of J&K’s Baramulla district on Wednesday. The incident took place in the Kamalkote area of the Uri sector. The soldiers, identified as Arjun Jadhav and Vikram Balakrishna from Maharashtra, suffered critical injuries in the blast.
They were immediately taken to the army’s base hospital in the Badamibagh Cantonment area of Srinagar. Despite the medical team’s efforts, they could not be saved. Both soldiers were part of the 8 Rashtriya Rifles. Further details on the cause of the explosion are still awaited.
J&K has a 740-km-long LoC running through Baramulla, Kupwara, and Bandipora districts in the Valley. The LoC in the Jammu division spans Poonch, Rajouri, and partly the Jammu district. Additionally, the Union Territory features a 240-km-long International Border across Samba, Jammu, and Kathua districts in the Jammu division.
The LoC is under the army’s protection, while the Border Security Force (BSF) guards the international border. Both forces are stationed to prevent activities like infiltration, exfiltration, smuggling, and drone incursions from across the border. To counter drone threats, advanced anti-drone equipment has been deployed along the LoC and the international border.
Terror groups, aided by Pakistani forces, utilize drones to drop arms, cash, and drugs into Indian territory. These supplies are then collected by overground workers (OGWs) and passed on to terrorists in J&K to sustain their operations.
