Two wanted criminals, accused in cow slaughter cases and each carrying a reward of Rs 10,000, were apprehended after a police encounter in Shahjahanpur district, Uttar Pradesh. The arrest was made during a joint operation involving the Special Operations Group (SOG), Surveillance Cell, and Kant Police. Illegal firearms, cartridges, and a mobile phone were seized from the suspects.
Additional Superintendent of Police (City) in Shahjahanpur, Devendra Kumar, received a tip-off late on Tuesday night about the presence of the wanted criminals near Jindon Wali Puliya on the Madnapur-Kant road. The suspects, who were allegedly preparing for cow slaughter, were booked under the Gangster Act and had cash rewards on their heads.
Upon receiving the information, a combined police team rushed to the location and initiated a search operation. When the suspects noticed the police, some attempted to escape, while two of them opened fire at the officers. In the ensuing exchange, one of the accused, Mohammad Shakir, sustained gunshot wounds in both legs, while his accomplice, Dharmveer, was captured by the police. Both individuals hail from Bareilly district.
Interrogation revealed that Shakir and Dharmveer, along with two other absconding accomplices named Sanu and Anees, confessed to their involvement in cow slaughter cases. Efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the remaining fugitives. Records indicate that the arrested individuals have pending cases related to cow slaughter, the Gangster Act, the Arms Act, and attempted murder.
Following the arrest, Shakir received initial medical aid and was later referred to the district hospital for further treatment. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused at Kant Police Station, with investigations ongoing. More information is expected as the case progresses.
