In a tragic incident in Jharkhand’s Latehar district, two women lost their lives, and another was seriously injured when a wild bison attacked them. The women, identified as Shilamaniya Devi, 64, and Shanti Kunwar, 50, were collecting mahua in the forest when the bison suddenly struck, causing fatal injuries.

Family members discovered the bodies of the women the next day after they failed to return home. Additionally, another woman was attacked by the same bison in a nearby region, sustaining severe injuries but was rescued by villagers and is now receiving medical treatment.

The Forest Department and police have offered condolences to the families of the deceased and provided immediate financial aid. They have promised further compensation after completing necessary procedures. Local residents are urging authorities to enhance safety measures for those living near wildlife areas and expedite compensation for affected families.

Panic has gripped the Barwadih and Chhipadohar regions following the attacks, prompting a joint investigation by police and forest officials. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination at Latehar Sadar Hospital.
