Ride-hailing giant Uber is planning to launch its inaugural data center in India in partnership with the Adani Group, as stated by Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi on Wednesday. Khosrowshahi, after meeting with Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani in Ahmedabad, highlighted India’s rapid evolution as a key innovation center for Uber.
Expressing enthusiasm about the collaboration, Khosrowshahi shared on social media platform X, “Great to meet Gautam Adani in Ahmedabad this morning and build on our existing partnership with the Adani group.” He further added, “As India fast emerges as a leading innovation hub for Uber, we are setting up our first data centre in the country with the Adani Group to test and deploy our tech.”
The upcoming data center is anticipated to bolster Uber’s expanding technology and innovation endeavors in India, a market that has grown significantly important for the company not only in terms of mobility services but also in engineering and product advancement. “Ready later this year, this investment will help us build at scale – from India, for the world,” mentioned the CEO.
This announcement of the new partnership coincides with the Adani Group’s rapid expansion in the digital infrastructure realm within India. Last month, it was revealed that AdaniConneX, the Adani Group’s data center joint venture with EdgeConneX, is spearheading the establishment of a 1 GW AI-ready data center platform in Visakhapatnam. The ambitious project, supported by an investment of nearly $10 billion from the Adani Group, underscores the conglomerate’s enduring commitment to constructing extensive digital infrastructure to bolster India’s forthcoming technological and economic progress.
