Pakistan is under scrutiny as the UK imposes visa restrictions on nations with high asylum cases. The UK has halted visas for people from Afghanistan, Cameroon, Myanmar, and Sudan due to a surge in asylum claims. Despite being a major source of asylum seekers in the UK, Pakistan has not faced visa restrictions yet.
UK Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood stated that this is just the beginning of actions in this area and hinted at further measures. While Pakistan cooperates in repatriating rejected asylum seekers, a significant number of Pakistanis on student visas later seek asylum in the UK.
Official data shows that Pakistani nationals make up a substantial portion of asylum seekers in the UK, with a notable increase in applications. Despite a high rejection rate of over 70%, only a small fraction of unsuccessful Pakistani asylum applicants are deported back to Pakistan.
