The Union government initiated the International Conference on Carbon Markets, named Prakriti 2026, on Saturday. This conference aims to gather policymakers, industry leaders, and global experts to discuss carbon markets and climate action. Organized by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency under the Ministry of Power and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, the event is part of the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026.
The conference serves as a significant platform for both national and international stakeholders to explore the changing dynamics of carbon markets. It focuses on their role in climate mitigation and the opportunities they present for India’s green growth. Additionally, the Indian Carbon Market portal was unveiled by the Union government during the event, with the presence of Union Minister for Power and Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar, Minister of State for Power Shripad Naik, and other dignitaries.
The newly launched portal will act as a central hub for managing and executing the Indian carbon market. Union Minister Khattar emphasized India’s leadership in advancing climate commitments during the portal’s inauguration. He highlighted initiatives like the Carbon Credit Trading Scheme, the expansion of renewable energy, and energy efficiency programs that are contributing to the development of a transparent and credible carbon market framework, which is poised to become a valuable national asset in the long run.
