The Union government plans to present the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 in Parliament to combat paper leaks and exam fraud. Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister, will introduce the Bill, which aims to amend the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024. The proposed changes include stricter penalties like imprisonment for up to 10 years and fines up to Rs 10 crore to uphold exam integrity.
The amendment seeks to bolster transparency in exams and protect students’ futures by ensuring swift justice. It includes provisions for severe penalties, asset confiscation, and a mechanism for quick verdicts within three months. The government’s move follows the Cabinet’s approval of a Bill to set up fast-track courts for expedited trials in paper leak cases.
The upcoming legislation is part of the government’s efforts to crack down on paper leaks and exam fraud. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier announced plans for a comprehensive Bill to address these issues. The proposed fast-track courts will be tasked with delivering judgments promptly, aiming to curb exam-related offenses and provide timely justice.
Expressing concern over the impact of exam irregularities, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the distress caused to students and families by paper leaks. He highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring fair exams for millions of candidates. The government has taken stringent actions against those involved in paper leaks, with a focus on safeguarding students’ interests.
