Union Home Minister Amit Shah participated in the third International Kite Festival 2026 in New Delhi, emphasizing the festival’s role in showcasing India’s cultural unity amidst diversity. The event, graced by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, attracted a large audience, including senior officials and citizens. Shah extended greetings to the nation, especially farmers, on the occasion of Makar Sankranti and other harvest festivals celebrated nationwide.
The Home Minister highlighted the festival’s significance, noting that Makar Sankranti marks the sun’s entry into Capricorn and symbolizes the start of a new agricultural cycle for farmers. He commended the efforts of the Delhi government and the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in organizing the International Kite Festival, proposing further expansion and promotion of the event to enhance public engagement. Shah suggested establishing a dedicated committee to elevate the festival into a prominent cultural celebration that connects people across the country.
Shah praised the transformation of the festival venue, Baansera, as a testament to determination turning vision into reality. He emphasized the need to make Delhi’s Kite Festival a focal point for kite enthusiasts nationwide. The Home Minister also acknowledged the themed pavilion at the festival, showcasing the history of kites, including their historical significance during wartime. Shah underscored the importance of festivals in Indian culture, citing the festival’s historical and cultural relevance.
