Union Home Minister Amit Shah, also the MP from Gandhinagar, inaugurated 40 electric buses in Gandhinagar under the PM eBus Sewa scheme. Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel and other officials attended the event. This launch is part of the PM eBus Sewa initiative’s first phase in Gandhinagar, with a total of 100 electric midi buses planned for urban transport.
The buses will be operated by Gandhinagar Greenline Transport Service Limited, set up by the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation. The PM eBus Sewa scheme, with a budget of Rs 57,613 crore, aims to deploy 10,000 electric buses nationwide for cleaner public transport. These buses are fully air-conditioned, nine-meter-long with seating for 25 passengers and standing space for 13.
Each bus features a hydraulic ramp for disability access, with reserved seats for women and senior citizens. Electronic Ticketing Machines are installed for cashless payments. A modern depot and charging infrastructure costing around Rs 17 crore have been developed at Sargasan to support the fleet’s operations. The buses will run on 18 routes connecting Gandhinagar with nearby areas, with fares ranging from Rs 5 to Rs 30 based on distance.
The Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation has announced free travel for the first 15 days to promote bus usage. Children under five will continue to travel free. The introduction of electric buses aims to enhance clean public transport in Gandhinagar, focusing on accessibility and digital ticketing services.
