Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to lead a special commemorative event in Kolkata on Monday to mark the 125th Birth anniversary of Syama Prasad Mookerjee, known as ‘Bharat Kesari’. The Ministry of Culture, along with the Government of West Bengal, will host the event at Milan Mela Prangan in Kolkata. The commemoration aims to honor Mookerjee’s significant contributions to India’s political, cultural, educational, and industrial sectors.
The program will be graced by Union Minister of Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, Chief Secretary Manoj Agarwal, Ministry of Culture Secretary Vivek Aggarwal, and other distinguished guests. The Ministry of Culture had previously announced a two-year nationwide commemoration of Syama Prasad Mookerjee’s 125th birth anniversary in 2025. This initiative recognizes Mookerjee as a visionary statesman, educationist, parliamentarian, and nationalist leader.
The event will kick off with floral tributes at the residence of Syama Prasad Mookerjee in Bhawanipore, Kolkata, led by Home Minister Amit Shah and other dignitaries. Subsequently, Amit Shah will visit Eco Park to perform the Bhoomi Poojan and lay the foundation stone for a proposed 125-foot statue of Mookerjee. This statue is a symbolic gesture to acknowledge his lasting impact on the nation.
A special exhibition dedicated to Mookerjee’s life and legacy will be unveiled at Milan Mela Prangan. The exhibition, featuring rare photographs, archival documents, and multimedia displays, will highlight his personal journey, ideological vision, educational reforms, and role in India’s democratic and industrial development. The program will also include a mass singing of Vande Mataram and a musical tribute titled “Sur, Sanskriti evam Rashtra” by the Centre For Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT).
