Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Ahmedabad on March 7 and 8 for the inauguration of urban development projects worth over Rs 60 crore. Shah will kick off his visit on the evening of March 7 and proceed to inaugurate a new sports complex in the Vastral area on March 8, costing Rs 61.67 crore. This modern sports facility aims to enhance sports infrastructure for events like the 2030 Commonwealth Games and promote local athletic participation.
Shah will also dedicate the initial phase of the Kharicut Canal renovation and development project, covering a 12.75-kilometre stretch from Naroda to Vinzol. This project holds significance in improving urban infrastructure and drainage in the city. Additionally, during his visit, Shah is expected to hold meetings with leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Ahmedabad city unit. These discussions align with the preparations for the upcoming municipal and panchayat elections, with key appointments being made at district and morcha levels.
The visit to Ahmedabad follows Shah’s recent engagement in Gandhinagar on February 15, where he reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of farmers, cattle rearers, and fishermen in international trade agreements. At the event, Shah launched the country’s first Central Bank Digital Currency-based Public Distribution System at Mahatma Mandir, emphasizing its role in combating corruption and enhancing transparency in the delivery process. The upcoming programmes in Ahmedabad are centered on urban development, public infrastructure, and internal party discussions.
