Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Ladakh for a two-day tour starting Thursday. He will be paying his respects to the sacred relics of Lord Buddha on May 1, marking the occasion of Buddha Purnima. The visit includes a meeting of the Sub-Committee on May 22 with the Leh Apex Body and the Kargil Democratic Alliance.
Shah is expected to arrive in Leh later in the day and participate in the Buddha Purnima observance by offering prayers to the sacred relics of Lord Buddha. The visit will also involve a review of ongoing development projects in Ladakh and interactions with prominent citizens of the Union Territory. The detailed itinerary of his engagements has not been released by the administration yet.
The announcement of Shah’s visit was made by Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on April 26. The Lieutenant Governor highlighted the significance of the visit in terms of the Government of India’s focus on the development of Ladakh. Additionally, the Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to convene a meeting of the Sub-Committee for political dialogue with Ladakh-based groups on May 22 to further the process of constructive democratic dialogue.
