The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has requested a report regarding the alleged attack on the vehicle of Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly. The ministry sought this report after BJP sources revealed the incident on Sunday. The report is being sent to the MHA, including video footage from the LoP’s office.
Following the attack on Suvendu Adhikari’s car in West Midnapore district, BJP workers and supporters held protests in various districts. The incident occurred as Adhikari’s convoy was returning to Kolkata after attending a political event in Purulia district. Adhikari reported that Trinamool Congress activists obstructed the road at Chandrakona and attacked his convoy with bamboo sticks, damaging the bulletproof vehicle.
This is not the first time Adhikari’s convoy has been targeted by alleged Trinamool Congress activists. In a previous incident in August 2025 at Cooch Behar town, his convoy was attacked, but he remained unharmed due to the vehicle’s bulletproof glass. The BJP attributed the attack to Trinamool Congress supporters.
Trinamool Congress spokesperson Arup Chakraborty denied the attack on Suvendu’s car, claiming that people were merely chanting ‘Joy Bangla’ slogans. Adhikari sought refuge at the Chandrakona police outpost after the attack on his convoy.
