Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized the importance of the “BRICS Space Economy” as a key driver of global growth. He urged member nations to collaborate for advancements in innovation, investment, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development. Dr. Singh highlighted the potential of BRICS countries to play a significant role in the expanding global space economy.
Addressing the BRICS Heads of Space Agencies meeting in Bengaluru, Dr. Singh stressed the need for collective action and partnerships in shaping the future of the space economy. He expressed confidence in BRICS nations becoming a strong pillar in the evolving global space ecosystem through shared innovation and ambition.
India’s commitment to collaborating with BRICS partners to translate common goals into tangible outcomes was reaffirmed by the minister. He emphasized the role of space in fostering development, resilience, innovation, sustainability, and international cooperation. The meeting, hosted by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) under India’s BRICS Chairship 2026, brought together space agency leaders and officials from various countries.
Progress in BRICS space cooperation was reviewed during the two-day meeting, which also discussed key issues such as space sustainability and strengthening the BRICS Remote Sensing Satellite Constellation. Dr. Singh highlighted the transformative impact of space technology on economic growth and societal progress, enabling advancements in communication, navigation, disaster management, agriculture, healthcare, education, and environmental monitoring.
Referring to the significant role of BRICS in the global space arena, Dr. Singh noted the grouping’s substantial population, economic output, scientific expertise, and technological capabilities. He emphasized that enhanced cooperation among BRICS nations could lead to new opportunities for innovation, technology transfer, investment, and economic growth while addressing common developmental priorities.
