Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and former Brazilian World Cup winner, FIFA legend Gilberto D’Silva revealed the FIFA World Cup trophy in New Delhi. The trophy, a symbol of the upcoming 23rd edition of the FIFA World Cup, returned to India after 12 years as part of its global Trophy Tour. Fans in Delhi will have the opportunity to view the trophy for two more days before it moves to Guwahati for a day.
Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya highlighted the importance of sports under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, emphasizing its role in nurturing discipline, confidence, and character among the youth. He expressed India’s ambition to become one of the top five sporting nations by 2047. Gilberto Silva, expressing his excitement, noted the growing popularity of football in India and shared his journey from idolizing football stars to becoming one himself.
The event is a part of the FIFA Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola, aimed at building excitement for the FIFA World Cup 2026 in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Scheduled from June 11 to July 19, 2026, the tournament will see the trophy visit 30 FIFA Member Associations across 75 stops and over 150 tour days. This initiative offers football fans worldwide a unique opportunity to engage with the sport.
