Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, led a meeting in Bengaluru with prominent electric two-wheeler manufacturers to discuss enhancing local manufacturing and establishing a competitive electric mobility sector in India. The manufacturers shared insights on their efforts in developing indigenous electric mobility platforms and technologies, emphasizing the importance of domestic engineering and manufacturing capabilities. They also highlighted the potential for India to become a key global manufacturing hub for electric two-wheelers.
The stakeholders outlined the industry’s evolving needs and stressed the significance of ongoing policy support to bolster domestic manufacturing. Discussions included perspectives on sector incentives, strategies for scaling up production, and enhancing market presence both locally and internationally. The manufacturers also addressed the “PM E-DRIVE Scheme” and advocated for its extension, along with proposing revisions to the “PLI Auto Scheme” to align with industry demands.
Union Minister Kumaraswamy was briefed on opportunities to accelerate indigenous electric vehicle manufacturing, increase domestic value addition, and tap into India’s electric vehicle export capabilities. The manufacturers sought guidance on fostering a conducive environment for local players to compete globally. In response, the Minister affirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the electric two-wheeler ecosystem, promoting innovation, and facilitating exports to realize the vision of a self-reliant and developed India.
