Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh criticized Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi for changing his stance on ending a protest outside the Prime Minister’s residence. Singh mentioned that Gandhi initially agreed to halt the Congress demonstration after government assurances but later reversed his decision, which Singh found unbecoming of Gandhi’s stature. The government had reached out to Gandhi, with Singh meeting him as a government representative to address their concerns and resolve the protest.
The protest outside the PM’s residence was led by the Gandhi siblings, accompanied by several party MPs and Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, aiming to pressure the government regarding NEET paper leaks. Singh, discussing the government’s efforts, explained that despite giving assurances and Gandhi agreeing to end the protest, Gandhi changed his mind, citing it as his prerogative. Singh highlighted Gandhi’s confrontational approach, noting his shifting demands despite the government’s initial agreement.
Singh, along with the Home Secretary, emphasized the necessity to conclude the demonstration during discussions with Gandhi at the protest site. Despite assurances from the government to discuss NEET-related issues in Parliament, Gandhi altered his demands, now also seeking the resignation of the Union Education Minister. Singh expressed disappointment at Gandhi’s swift change in demands, emphasizing that it was regrettable for a leader of Gandhi’s stature to backtrack on commitments.
