Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil recently engaged in discussions aimed at bolstering the nation’s water security by focusing on water conservation and improving water use efficiency in irrigation. The discussions took place during a national conference where Patil interacted with officials from various states and Union Territories. Emphasizing the importance of initiatives like “Catch the Rain,” Patil highlighted the need for public involvement in enhancing water security measures.
In his message, Patil underscored the significance of strengthening water security through various means such as water conservation, efficient irrigation practices, dam safety, technological advancements, and better interstate coordination. He expressed confidence that the outcomes of the conference and the proposed suggestions would drive significant reforms in the country’s water sector, leading to more effective water resource management.
Aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Catch the Rain” campaign, a unique project in Navsari is actively working on conserving rainwater and replenishing groundwater through recharge borewells. These collaborative efforts between the local administration and the public have proven successful in preventing rainwater wastage and consistently replenishing groundwater levels. Patil commended this joint initiative, stating that it exemplifies the positive outcomes when government and society collaborate for a sustainable future.
The national conference, organized by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, aimed to reinforce sustainable water resource management by enhancing policy coordination, strengthening institutions, ensuring efficient project execution, improving dam safety, and promoting community engagement in water conservation. It sought to enhance coordination between the central and state governments on key water resource initiatives and evaluate the progress of major national programs under the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
