Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting L. Murugan highlighted the Central government’s focus on developing the Northeast region during an interactive session in Kolasib district. He underscored Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to the region’s progress, emphasizing its importance for India’s overall development. Efforts are underway to enhance road connectivity and infrastructure to improve the quality of life for residents.
Murugan commended the efforts of Heads of Offices and NGO representatives in their respective fields, noting advancements in sports and women’s empowerment. He pointed out the operational Bairabi-Sairang railway line and the introduction of the Rajdhani Express, boosting tourism in Mizoram. Collaboration between the state government, Ministry of DoNER, and the Central government has facilitated rapid development in the region.
The Minister expressed satisfaction that Mizo filmmakers participated in the International Film Festival of India and encouraged filmmakers to explore shooting in Mizoram. He urged support for the ‘PM Surya Ghar’ initiative and emphasized the significance of primary education as the foundation for progress. Murugan called for collective efforts to realize the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ for a fully developed India by 2047.
Representatives from various NGOs engaged in the interactive session with the Union Minister, followed by a meeting with the Deputy Commissioner of Kolasib District and Heads of Offices. The session included a presentation on the district’s profile and government scheme progress, along with a Q&A session. Murugan also visited the Kolasib District Hospital to discuss healthcare delivery and infrastructure.
