Union Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh highlighted the significant economic potential of the fisheries, animal husbandry, and dairy sectors in the Northeast. He underscored Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for the region’s progress during a Regional Review Meeting of the eight Northeastern states. Singh reaffirmed the Central government’s commitment to realizing the Prime Minister’s development goals.
Singh praised the growth in fish production in the Northeast, attributing it to initiatives like the Blue Revolution and the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana. He noted a substantial increase in fish production from 3.78 lakh tonnes in 2014 to 7.05 lakh tonnes in 2025, with the Central government allocating Rs 2,228 crore to the region over 12 years.
The Minister announced plans for establishing Integrated Aquaparks, including India’s first at Ziro in Arunachal Pradesh, and a Fish Marketing Center in Mizoram. He also emphasized the potential of cluster-based fish farming, upgrading facilities, and investing in the Mission Amrit Sarovar initiative. Singh expressed readiness to assess the region’s needs firsthand post-monsoon with top officials.
On animal husbandry, Singh highlighted the Northeast’s achievements in milk, egg, and meat production, urging states to leverage this progress further. He stressed the importance of strengthening cooperative societies, enhancing infrastructure, and promoting technology adoption. The Minister also mentioned plans for vaccine development and establishing an NDDB Regional Office in Guwahati.
