Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw virtually launched the first-ever Ramnagar-Dehradun Express service, connecting the Kumaon and Garhwal regions of Uttarakhand. This new train fulfills a longstanding demand and enhances rail connectivity in the area, offering same-day travel to Dehradun and Haridwar for various purposes.
The service, operating on Wednesdays and Fridays, departs Ramnagar at 5:50 am and arrives in Dehradun at 12:40 pm. The return journey from Dehradun to Ramnagar departs at 3:55 pm and reaches its destination by 11:30 pm, with stops at key stations en route.
With a range of coach classes available, including AC Second Class, Sleeper Class, and General Second-Class, the service caters to diverse passenger needs. It benefits residents of several districts in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, facilitating travel for students, farmers, traders, and tourists.
The new service is expected to boost tourism and pilgrimage activities by improving access to popular destinations like Jim Corbett National Park and religious sites. Additionally, plans are underway to develop Rishikesh railway station as a feeder station to reduce congestion at Haridwar and enhance overall connectivity in the region.
