Union Textile Minister Giriraj Singh has purchased a new electric vehicle in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to reduce petrol and diesel usage amid the US-Iran conflict. Singh was spotted using the electric car to travel to Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport before boarding a flight. He shared his decision on social media, emphasizing the importance of environmental protection and modern progress through the adoption of electric vehicles.
This move by Singh is seen as a symbolic gesture to promote energy-saving practices and encourage the public, especially his supporters, to shift towards electric mobility. Prime Minister Modi had previously urged citizens to consider working from home, reduce fuel consumption, limit gold purchases, use public transport more, support indigenous products, opt for domestic tourism, and cut down on chemical fertilizers. These appeals were made in the national interest, considering global uncertainties.
Former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has also been using an electric vehicle in Patna for some time now. Kumar primarily uses his electric vehicle for city travel and switches to an SUV only for longer road trips outside Patna. Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized PM Modi’s suggestions, labeling them as evidence of the government’s failure rather than mere advice. Gandhi highlighted Modi’s call to the public to make sacrifices in various aspects like gold purchases, international travel, fuel consumption, and more as indicators of governmental shortcomings.
