Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya Scindia emphasized the significant contribution of the Ministry of DoNER and the North Eastern Council (NEC) in propelling the Northeast as a key driver of India’s development. Speaking at the 73rd Plenary Session of the NEC in Shillong, Scindia credited former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s vision for laying the groundwork for the region’s progress.
Scindia praised the NEC as a distinctive institution that not only facilitates but also partners in the development of the eight northeastern states, addressing crucial infrastructure and service deficiencies. Over the last two decades, the region has seen remarkable advancements in connectivity, digital infrastructure, and public service accessibility.
Highlighting the importance of technology in governance and planning, Scindia stressed the role of data-driven decision-making in identifying infrastructure needs and optimizing resource distribution. He emphasized that technology aids in pinpointing gaps, preventing duplication, and ensuring efficient investment targeting.
The minister also acknowledged the value of geospatial and digital mapping initiatives in enhancing planning processes and fostering coordination between the central and state governments. He noted the Northeast’s growing significance as a strategic gateway to Southeast Asia and a vital contributor to India’s economic growth and connectivity aspirations.
